It Finally Happened....
It finally happened.
My oldest daughter (Delaney) had a meltdown and even 'disobeyed'. GASP! Now, I know that may seem wierd to be posting but this child is almost 9 and she has NEVER given me any grief. No tantrums, no disobeying, no lying....she's considerate, helpful and loving. Granted, she's a little like 'Hammy' from Over the Hedge with her constant running and twitting about but all in all, she's pretty even keel.
Last week when the Fehr girls were here for two nights, Delaney heard some giggling in Camryn's room, went in and told the girls that if she had to come in again, she'd have to get Mom and then there would be trouble...Journey proceeded to tell her that she missed her Mom and Dad and was upset. WITHOUT getting us, Delaney prayed with her, tucked her back in and then gave them a stern warning about talking again. SERIOUSLY!
Then last night happened.
My daughter was upset all night.
Over chocolate....
OH LORD IT'S ALL MY FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CAN RELATE!!!
We were all eating dinner (and again, this is a child who will eat ANYTHING without complaining!! Even if she doesn't like it, she'll eat it and tell me after!), she was picking at it and I asked her what the problem was? She told me she wasn't really hungry (she'd been out with a friend and they had gone to DQ for a treat) so I said that was fine...not a problem! Until I got dessert out for the other girls. They each got a chocolate bar (a Cadbury 100 calorie thin one but still, it's a 'whole' chocolate bar to them!) and she didn't get one. I wasn't being mean or anything but she said she was full! She didn't want to eat! No problem...you can have the chocolate tomorrow....but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO way was that ok. She pouted. She cried and laid on the couch with a 'pissy' attitude. I was really surprised, I went over, chatted with her, tried to figure out if something else was going on? I mean, this is Laney bugs....she couldn't possibly get this upset over chocolate could she? Fast forward 15 minutes and I get a note (she had been sent upstairs) from her telling me she was (and I quote)SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO mad about the chocolate and she was NEVER EVER coming out of her room. (She came out to give me the note but I'm guessing that was to be the last time!) I was befuzzled (for lack of a better term)....I was thinking that this was a precursor to teenage-dom.....here it starts! LONG LONG story short, we sent her to bed, I tried to snuggle with her...tried to talk to her....still mad at me.
ENTER Daddy.
DELANEY. Stop it RIGHT NOW.....you are making Mom feel bad because you are ticked off about a CHOCOLATE BAR. KIDS IN AFRICA ARE HAPPY TO EAT ANYTHING AND YOU ARE MAD ABOUT CHOCOLATE? (Ok, by this time I'm like 'YEAH! YOU preach it but really I think I have felt the same way about chocolate....) The only thing we NEED is our family! WE NEED TO BE THANKFUL FOR THE THINGS WE HAVE! WE ARE SPOILED IN NORTH AMERICA....GET OVER IT. RIGHT NOW.
At this, Delaney turns over and says.
OK Daddy.
Now, there's the girl I know.....
